BTA Fridays – Breaking the Algorithm™: Stop Chasing the Algorithm and Start Building Something That Lasts

If you've ever felt like you're doing everything the experts tell you to do on social media and still not getting anywhere, you're not imagining it.

Welcome to the very first episode of BTA Fridays – Breaking the Algorithm™, where we stop chasing trends and start building real visibility.

For a long time, I played the same game many indie authors play. I posted consistently. I used the recommended hashtags. I uploaded at the "right" times. I followed the advice that promised more reach, more engagement, and more visibility.

Sometimes it worked.

Most of the time, it didn't.

That's when I realized something important.

The algorithm isn't designed to help creators succeed. It's designed to keep people scrolling.

Every platform wants your attention because attention keeps people on the app. The quality of your book, your message, or the years you've invested in your craft aren't what determine whether someone sees your post.

The rules change constantly, often without notice. What worked last month may stop working tomorrow, leaving authors wondering what they did wrong.

The truth is, you probably didn't do anything wrong.

You're simply trying to build a business on a system you don't control.

That's why I created BTA Fridays – Breaking the Algorithm™.

This series isn't about finding the next social media trick. It's about building an author career that isn't dependent on a single platform.

We'll talk about creating genuine relationships with readers, bookstores, book clubs, podcasts, and literary communities. We'll explore ways to increase visibility offline as well as online. We'll discuss practical strategies that help authors build trust instead of chasing temporary attention.

You'll also hear me share the same strategies I'm using myself. These aren't theories or recycled marketing advice. They're the lessons I'm learning while building Bright Headed Publishing and TrustBridge™ in real time.

Going viral isn't the goal.

Building something that still exists years from now is.

When readers know you, trust you, and recommend your work to others, you've built something no algorithm can take away.

If you're tired of feeling invisible despite doing everything "right," I hope you'll join me every Friday as we continue breaking the algorithm and replacing it with something better.

  • Algorithms are designed to maximize attention, not necessarily reward quality.
  • Constantly changing platform rules make it difficult to build a sustainable strategy.
  • Real visibility comes from relationships, trust, and community.
  • Focus on creating long-term opportunities instead of chasing viral moments.
  • Build an author platform that exists beyond social media.
  • Legacy is built through consistency, connection, and purpose.
