Welcome back to another episode of The Author’s Mic — and you know it’s Monday, which means it’s guest Monday! I love when other people come on this platform and share it with me, because that was the whole reason I built it in the first place. Not just to promote myself, but to give other authors a chance to share their voices too.
And today’s guest?
Y’all — Barbara Grassey is the real deal.
She’s an author and a marketing expert who’s written sixty books. Yes — sixty. And everything she talks about is exactly what this platform is built around: visibility, voice, and value.
Writing Isn’t Enough — You Have to Market It
One of the most powerful things Barbara said in this episode was:
“If you wrote your book from a place of service — because you believe it helps people — then you’re not selling. You’re sharing something that could be useful or powerful for someone else.”
And when I tell you that line stuck with me? Whew.
Because so many of us indie authors hate the idea of marketing. We don’t want to feel pushy. We don’t want to beg for attention. But here’s the thing:
“If you don’t market it, no one gets to benefit from it. So it really is a disservice not to share.”
Yes. That part.
It’s not about selling — it’s about letting your story do what it was meant to do: move people.
What We’re Building Together
Barbara also said something I loved:
“Thank you for what you're doing here — giving authors real tools and truth. We need more of that.”
That’s why I started Author’s Mic.
That’s why I built Bright Headed Publishing.
That’s why I show up here every week.
Because indie authors deserve better — better tools, better support, better platforms.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve ever felt weird about promoting your book, remember this:
You’re not pushing a product. You’re offering something meaningful.
If your book can help even one person — it’s worth sharing.
And if you don’t share it? That one person might never find it.
So yeah. Marketing isn’t optional.
