The Author’s Mic™: Summer Break, Rest, and Affirmations for Indie Authors

There comes a point when we all need permission to step away.

Not because we're giving up.

Not because we've run out of ideas.

But because we're human.

In this episode of The Author's Mic™, I shared two things that have been on my heart lately. First, I announced that I'll be taking a true summer break during July and August. Second, I wanted to leave you with something I hope you'll come back to whenever doubt starts creeping in: a collection of affirmations written specifically for indie authors.

Being an indie author can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be lonely.

Many of us are balancing full-time jobs, families, responsibilities, health challenges, and everything else life throws our way. Then we sit down in front of a blank page and expect ourselves to create something meaningful.

That's a lot to carry.

If you've ever questioned whether you're good enough, wondered if anyone will read your work, or felt like everyone else is moving ahead while you're standing still, you're not alone. I've been there, too.

That's exactly why I wanted to record this episode.

Sometimes we don't need another marketing strategy or another productivity tip. Sometimes we simply need to remember why we started writing in the first place.

One affirmation I come back to often is:

I trust the timing of my journey.

As authors, it's easy to compare ourselves to someone else's timeline. We see book launches, bestseller announcements, speaking engagements, and awards, and we wonder if we're somehow behind.

The truth is, there isn't one timeline.

Every writer's journey looks different.

Another reminder that resonates with me is that every sentence we write is an act of courage. Whether anyone reads today's words or not, showing up for our creativity still matters.

I also believe something many authors need to hear:

You are still an author on the days you don't write.

Rest doesn't erase your identity as a writer.

It strengthens it.

As I step away for a little while to enjoy summer and recharge, I hope you'll give yourself permission to do the same whenever you need it. Creativity isn't fueled by exhaustion. Sometimes it grows best when we give ourselves room to breathe.

If you have affirmations that help you stay grounded during your writing journey, I'd love for you to share them. We all benefit when we encourage one another.

  • Your words are worthy, even when you feel unsure.
  • There is someone who needs the story only you can tell.
  • You are not behind. Your journey has its own timing.
  • Every sentence you write is an act of courage.
  • You are still an author, even on the days you don't write.
  • Rest is part of the creative process, not a reward for finishing it.
  • There is room for your voice in this world of stories.
